Her goal is transformation–in how audiences perceive the river and its industrial environs, but also in how audience members see themselves in relation to art and architecture, the natural and built environments, and place and community. And she's succeeded.

Marylee Hardenbergh has been creating large outdoor site-specific performances for twenty-five years, in such sites as wastewater treatment plants, aerial lift bridges, library windows, and a clock tower on the Volga in Russia. She has been named Artist of the Year twice and received numerous grants and fellowship awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the McKnight and Soros Foundations. For the last nine years, she has been creating Solstice River, an event that honors the Mississippi River in Minneapolis at the historic Stone Arch Bridge.
